Minor construction work will commence on Friday 16 June 2017 to improve access for pedestrians and cyclists at the intersection of Kings Avenue and Parkes Way.
The work includes:
- The relocation of the traffic lights within the Parkes Way on ramp will enable a clearer line of sight of the traffic lights for approaching road users. The on-road cycle crossing will be relocated with the traffic lights.
- There are four sets of traffic lights operating on the western side of the Kings Avenue and Parkes Way intersection. The pedestrian crossings at these intersections are not synchronised, which can create some delays for pedestrians and cyclists. The lights at the on ramp will be paired, and the lights at the off ramp will be paired, with each pair operating only when activated.
This work is being undertaken to improve pedestrian and cycle access for those who use the area, particularly workers in the Russell defence precinct, and visitors to Kings Park and the Boundless Playground.
The work will be undertaken during the daytime hours and outside of peak hour traffic. Vehicle lanes will not be closed.
Brightly coloured bollards and other temporary traffic control measures will be in place indicating where motorists, pedestrians and cyclists should proceed with caution.
The work is anticipated to be completed by 30 June 2017.
