National Capital Exhibition

Please Note Changed Access to the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point During Temporary Road Closure.
A section of Barrine Drive under Commonwealth Bridge to Albert Street is closed between 9 June to 9 September 2017 and 23 October to 9 March 2018 for ACT Government West Basin Point Park redevelopment works. Barrine Drive will be reopened during Floriade 2017. Access to the National Capital Exhibition travelling south on Commonwealth Avenue is not affected by the temporary closure of Barrine Drive. 
Access to the National Capital Exhibition northbound on Commonwealth Avenue is via Vernon Circle (here is a map). Continue on Commonwealth Avenue, travel around City Hill on Vernon Circle, and return along Commonwealth Avenue. Turn left to Regatta Point at the pedestrian crossing traffic lights. The National Capital Exhibition tells the story of Canberra, Australia's national capital. Through interactive displays, the Exhibition illustrates Canberra's vital role as a symbol of Federation. It features the people, events, history and design which contributed to the development of this unique, modern, fully planned city.

  • Enjoy one of the best lakeside views of the Captain Cook Memorial Jet and the Parliamentary Triangle.

A Capital Investigation is a complete unit of work on cities, capital cities and our National Capital in particular. It will assist Primary school students prepare for an excursion to Canberra or reinforce what they have experienced after the excursion is complete.

Little Griffins

On the last Friday of each month, join us for an hour of Duplo™ fun for pre-schoolers. Our staff will lead the little builders of tomorrow through songs, activities and constructive play. Bookings are not necessary and the program is free. 10 – 11 am.

Weekdays: 9 am - 5 pm 

Weekends: 10 am - 4 pm

Closed: Public holidays except Australia Day and Canberra Day and from 25 December – 2 January inclusive.

Non-English Speaking Facilities

The Canberra Sound and Light Show is available in the following six non-English languages:

  • French
  • Spanish

Exhibition self guides are also available in the above languages as well as:

  • Cantonese
  • Italian

Picnic Facilities

A sheltered picnic facility with a children's playground is available to the left of the entrance of the National Capital Exhibition.

Parking Facilities

Easily accessible parking facilities are available for coaches within walking distance of the National Capital Exhibition. Extensive pay car parking is available. Short-stay pay parking is available for up to four hours close to the Exhibition entrance. All day multi-stay pay parking available off Regatta Place.
